Quick recap on life and why the site hasn't been updated.

I'm working three jobs at the local mall and with holiday hours, i'm scheduled minimum 12 hour shifts.
I'm overworked, underpaid yada yada.. but today, by the grace of Santa's snowy white beard, I get most of my day off. Luckily I only have to work a 6 hour shift that doesn't start until 6 pm

Just thought I'd share.

Plans in the making :
Of course update the site, and get back to DJing once the season is over. I also have to quit one or more jobs due to my lack of sleep and tired legs and feet. Perhaps I'm gettin old?

So I'm no longer sick, and it took all of one full week to recover without the aid of a doctor. Hot tea, Progresso soup cans, and home made chicken noodle soup for the win. Unfortunately all the salt content has left me feeling like having a heart attack at my age, just to get it over with. Not that I'm a health nut, but it seems that massive amounts of salt are key to getting better when you have either a severe cold or the flu. So its portrayed in Campbells soup cans "Mm Mmm Good" .

250 mgs of salt per SERVING of soup. (Note one serving equals approximately one cup).

All in all, I suppose this little can of joy should serves as a mainstay if you're ever ill. But combined with honey lemon tea and butt-loads of rest and relaxation with First Person Shooters, this can marks the beginning of a miracle in modern day science, with Salt-Treatment for severe cold/flu.

Being sick is disconcerting, but when I really think about the last time I've been this ill, the only thing that comes to mind is very nearly passing out at a local Rite Aid pharmacy. Last year, I went there for fever reducing
medication though by the time I reached the pharmacy, I could barely carry my own weight, let alone shop around. I ended up taking a seat on the cool floor of the pharmacy and rocked back and forth with my head in my hands. Quite a delirious moment, I might add... Though I came through, and vowed to myself that I would never come into contact with germy people again. A silly pledge, but nonetheless I meant it.

Of course, that didn't happen.

Working in retail demands that I come into contact with various germy people sneezing, sniffling and in some way getting their nasal and oral excretions on my person. Not that I'm a cleanfreak, but if I'm knowingly ill, I will make every effort to stay home and not spread my disease like the Black Plague. However, if my germs do end up infecting someone else, guess what... I meant to make them ill because I hate them.

Yes, I am vindictive like that, and I also naturally assume that everyone else who gets me ill has done so on purpose. Yet again, more feverish thinking, but right now it makes sense

So, this year I have flu like symptoms, undoubtedly gleaned from some unclean individual hellbent
on infecting the world with his or her germs. I suppose having a fever is very much like being drunk due to an obvious lack of control regarding one's legs, but that is about the end of list as far as similarities go. After all, having a fever is much less fun, and feels a lot worse when it is coupled with chills and achy muscles, that make it uncomfortable to even lay down.

So, here I sit with a cup of hot tea, wrapped up in blankets, writing a small article on Valve Corporations latest release : Orange Box, and all the goodies that came with the packaging.

And if you are the one who got me sick on Tuesday night, I will find you and beat you within an inch of your life. If you haven't gotten me ill, have a slice of Cake.

Love,

GLaDOS.

Saturday, August 11, 2007 my power came back on, the power outtage tasted a total of 4 days for me.

Pennsylvania is known for having mild yet muggy weather, and major storms usually only threat flooding for our poorly planned sewer systems. A small storm rolled by last week, and while the roads were clear, and the sewer systems handled the torrential downpours quite effectively for some areas of Pittsburgh, other places like Turtle Creek were completely flooded. Why the hell the power would go out for 94,000 people however, remains a fucking mystery.

Less than a few hours after the storm, I awoke to find all power completely turned off. I went outside, got in my car, and rode down to the local Chinese restaurant. There was no widespread panic, people were getting on with their lives. Yet this one fart in the wind caused thousands to live without power for over 5 days. Pittsburgh's utilities department must be doing something incredibly wrong, because they had to ask neighboring states for help regarding our inferior power grid. WTF?

Pittsburgh is an old city. The road layouts in this town are beyond confusing, featuring four lane highways that twist and turn along rollercoaster inspired city planning. Remember those old skool State Fair haunted houses? The ones based off of mine cart rides with scary looking paper machet' monsters impaled on sticks that would jump out at you? The ride alone was scarier than the main attraction..because it was so fucking rickety. Travelling Pittsburgh's roads remind you of those very ancient minecart rides.

The storm blew over fairly quickly, yet our state was completely unprepared for such a weak storm. Between the shanty houses and old trees that line our mountainous terrain, powerlines were downed, and drinking water may have been contaminated. The sewer systems failed us yet again, as some areas of Pittsburgh's suburbs were flooded, small creeks and rivers ran full of sewage, and people's homes were wrecked yet again.

During the whole time Ive lived in Pittsburgh, I've only seen one large scale storm that we could not have been prepared for. The summer of 05- August. Every street was flooded, downtown Pittsburgh suffered greatly due to the water deteriorating the integrity of the buildings, and even the mountainous regions and valleys were flooded causing millions of dollars in property damage. Cars were abandoned, police were out directing traffic, and people needed to be rescued since the three rivers flooded at the same time.

Even then... except for the flooded areas, power was still available to most of the greater Pittsburgh area.

This year, I don't know what the fuck happened with the utility companies. In the winter, there were three watermain breaks for my area alone. People went to what seemed like breadlines for clean water in sub zero degree weather. This summer, the electric company dropped the ball and took 5 days to restore power to over 94 thousand people. The storm, as far as I'm concerned was just a little hiccup- but yet the companies were caught with their pants down.

August 9th

Power Outtage these past few days,
none too happy with the time lost.
So much stuff to do: food to gather, water to find.

August 10th

...Itchy...Tasty

August 12

Power came back on:
unfortunately the landlord wasn't too pleased when I took a bite out of his arm.
I think there's something in my teeth.

After coming back from Otakon, I realized that Conventions are something I really want to take part of. Whether writing articles about the events, or just running around like a kid in a candy store, convention lists are large and there's always something to do.

I'm missing the Sandiego Comic Con right now, and a part of me is wondering if I could have attended the event at all. Logic is a bastard and Wallet is an even more annoying S.O.B. Together they transform into Devestator and wreak havok on event planning.

Next year I'll be able to attend more conventions as a Pressagent. In the meantime, the site has undergone some major changes within the past week, which I hope you will enjoy.

-ZoEcchi
